The votes are in. A new American idol has been crowned. “Extra” was waiting backstage to get the first reaction from the new American idol, Ruben Studdard.
After 12-weeks of singing their hearts out, "American Idol" finalists Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard squared-off center stage. And there were no hard feelings from runner-up, Clay. Clay told “Extra,” "I'm so proud of him."
Ruben says, “I was just sittin' there listening to whatever name came out and when they said Ruben Studdard I almost fainted. I was trippin'."
And all idols have fans, of course. Ruben’s number one fan is his mom. “I am elated. He did a wonderful job. This is a dream come true. Ruben you kept your eyes on the prize, and here we are."
Other fans included “Idol” judge, Paula Abdul. She not only gave him an extravagant gift that matched his performance, but she also broke out the big news that she will choreograph and stage for Ruben.
Aside from the “Idol” title and Paula’s gift, this crowned idol only wants one more thing. Ruben says, “Hopefully I can get some sleep. That's what I really want. I gotta get up too early."
There’s no doubt it will be sweet dreams for the new “American Idol.”
